Message Let me give everyone a little background on this Porsche kit and why I never attempted to market this kit.

When I started this project, Porsche “Big Red” calipers and rotors were in huge supply and prices were reasonable at $300/caliper and $150/rotor. Everyone seemed to be putting these kits together for a very wide variety of cars.

At the same time, I wanted to be able to get together a kit that would fit under the stock 16” wheels. A company called Movit was selling such a kit and their claim to fame for the Z32 kit was that it could fit under the stock wheel, but their kits were very expensive.

Since the time I took on this project, a couple of things have changed. First off, the supply of Big Red components has shrunk and prices have gone up drastically. Secondly, the price of aluminum had increased dramatically, since my initial run of parts, so I know that the brackets and hats would be much more costly to fabricate. The last thing was that the prices that one could get the StopTech kit meant that there was no price advantage for the Porsche kit.

In addition, there are some additional advantages to the StopTech kit such as the 332 mm dia rotor versus the Porsches 322 mm rotor. StopTech also has options for different styles of rotors versus the cross-drilled only version for the Porsche. I consider this key as I would really not want a cross-drilled rotor for track use with a Z32, although I have ran this kit on my 240SX at quite a few track events and had no problems at all. But then again, my 240SX is nearly 800 lbs lighter than my Z32. Also using an off the shelf caliper like the Porsche, one cannot tune the entire braking system like StopTech claims by their use of different pad, caliper, piston size, etc….. The StopTech kit also requires no modification to the aluminum spindle hub unlike the Porsche kit.

Finally, I could not figure out how to get the kit to fit under the stock wheel. I tried and finally gave up as I saw that it would not be feasible to do it economically. I studied the Movit kit and realized that they actually machined the calipers to make it fit on the spindle hub without having to modify it. I actually made one prototype kit like this, but it was very difficult to machine the caliper and there was no way that I could expect individuals to be able to get this precision machining done on their own if they were to piece together their own kit. In fact, with the one prototype kit that I made, the machining was ever so slightly off and this caused some very annoying brake squeal. Ensuring proper machining of the calipers would require fixturing that would drive the price of the parts up too much and would require that I had to provide the calipers for all the kits. I was hoping to be able to provide just brackets and rotor hats most people and allow them to source their own calipers and rotors.

Lastly, after consulting with those dreaded lawyers, the product liability aspect for myself as an individual was just too much to make this a worthwhile project.

I hope this answers a lot of questions on this kit.
